Day 1     DELHI – SRINAGAR Fly
Fly from Delhi to Srinagar, Arrive the airport, after meet and greet by local tour manager, transfer to houseboat. Remainder of the day at leisure. In the evening, a short Shikara ride over Dal Lake.

Srinagar at an elevation of 1730 Mt. is often referred to as “Venice of east” due to its waterways and canals, where one can find almost everything being sold on boats, from chemist to grocer, Handicraft to Post office.
 
 
Day 2      IN SRINAGAR
In the morning, half day Mughal Garden tour includes Shankraya Temple, atop Takhat e Sulaim hill, dominating the city and Dal lake, Nishat garden, laid over 7 terraces, built by Empress Nur Jahan’s brother Asif Khan and Shalimar garden laid by Jehangir, the Mughal emperor. Cheshmashahi (Royal Springs) has only three terraces in addition to natural spring of water enclosed in a stone pavilion. (Subject to, permission). Return to houseboat for lunch. In afternoon Shikara ride through back waters of Dal Lake to witness the life on small islands and have a close look at floating gardens.
 
 
Day 3     SRINAGAR – GULMARG – SRINAGAR Drive
Today, go for day long excursion of the world famous hill station “Gulmarg” (2730 Mt.) the ‘meadow of flowers’. Surrounded by snow capped mountains, during a clear day Nanga Parbat can be seen from here. Gulmarg has one of the world’s highest 18 hole golf course, which converts into India’s premiere skiing centre with international standard facilities during winters.

The activities include hikes, pony and Gandola ride to upper reaches of Gulmarg. In the evening, return to your houseboat in Srinagar.

 
 
Day 4     SRINAGAR – KARGIL Drive

Early morning depart and drive towards Kargil. After 96 Km drive, we arrive at Sonmarg located on Srinagar – Leh road at an altitude of 2700 Mt., we halt here for tea and snacks before climbing Zojila pass (3531 Mt.). From the verdant forested hill side above Sonmarg, through the hair-raising twists and turns after Zojila climb, still carpeted with wild flowers, one passes into an immense landscape of jagged barren rock. We arrive at Drass in late afternoon; it is the first major town and believed to be the second coldest inhabited place in the world. Another 60 Km drive from here takes us to Kargil the district headquarters at an altitude of 2650 Mt. Kargil has become very popular destination for a home tourist since 1999 conflicts between India and Pakistan. Arrive Kargil in the evening and check in at the hotel.

Note: There are many check points; traffic jam, as well as, one traffic, between Srinagar – Drass –Kargil, this causes some time delayed arrival into Kargil.

 
 
Day 5     KARGIL – LEH Drive
After breakfast leave for Leh, after a short drive, we reach to Mulbekh, the first Buddhist Township with the giant statue of the Maitreya, the Buddha to come. Buddhist houses can be easily recognized by their prayer flags on their roofs. From here, we gradually climb Namikala pass (3,728 Mt., then descend into Bodh Kharbo valley before climbing the highest pass on this route Fotula (4,102 Mt.), from this pass, about 14 km drive will take us to Lamayuru Monastery, one of the oldest in Ladakh. After exploring Lamayuru the road drops to the Gorge of the Yarpala River, and your driver will display amazing skill in ‘making‘ an amazingly sharp and seemingly endless series of hairpin turns down the face of the Gorge, and we are in Khalsi, here we stop for a cup of tea before driving the final stretch of the journey to Leh via Saspol. Arrive Leh in the evening and check in at the hotel.
 
 
Day 6     IN LEH
After breakfast the monastery tour. Visit Shankar Gompa (monastery), which houses a remarkable representation of Avalokitesvara, the Buddhist god of compassion, complete with 1,000 arms and 1,000 heads. Shanti stupa, looming impressively and commanding a panoramic view. Spituk Gompa, built in the 15th century and perched proudly on a hilltop, and Phyang Gompa which were built around the 15th century by king Tashi Namgyal, and now houses about 45 monks who belong to the Kagyupa order. This afternoon is free for personal exploration and optional tours.
 
 
Day 7     IN LEH
In morning leave for full day sightseeing of Shey Palace – Shey was once the capital of Ladakh in the pre – Tibetan era until the 15th century. Thiksey – Tsong Khapa had prophesied that a monastery would be built here and was founded by one of his disciples. Hemis - largest monastery founded in 1602 by Tagtsangrepa and Taktok – this monastery of the Nyimapa order has about 50 monks and is not far from Chimiri, where In the centre of the monastery is a cave in which Padmasambhava, the founder of the order is said to have meditated.
 
 
Day 8     IN LEH
Full day at leisure, for personal explorations, Browse around the local bazaars where shawls, carpets, painted scrolls and jewelry are on sale, and where Ladakhi women can be seen wearing their traditional tall hats, distinctive dresses and selling vegetables.

Optional: Full day excursion to the magnificent Likir monastery, it was founded in the 14th century, and was the first gompa in Ladakh known to have been built under the direction of Tibetan monks, and Alchi monastery, only one in the Ladakhi region on flat grounds, founded in the 11th century by the Great Translator, Ringchen Zangpo, on his return from India, which accounts for the Indian and particularly, Kashmiri influences.
 
 
Day 9     LEH – DELHI Fly
Transfer to Leh airport, in time to board Delhi bound flight. Arrive Delhi and transfer to a hotel, rooms for day use, in the evening transfer to Delhi International airport for homeward / onward journey.
